Note from Dawn: When is one supposed to stop doing handstands and cartwheels? How old does one need to be to stop swinging on the jungle gym? At which point in one’s life are we supposed to say, “That’s too heavy” or “Ugh, I can’t do that”? How old should a woman be when she concedes and no longer deadlifts or no longer does a pack run?
I started life as an athlete but eventually started believing that my running and gymnastics days were well behind me. My love of baked goods and giving into the perception of what a ‘mom’ should be overtook me and I sank deeper and deeper into the couch. One day I said, “NO MORE!” I got up and moved. I moved right into CrossFit. I ran and rowed my way into cardio and stamina. I deadlifted and handstand "push-uped" my way into strength and power. I Oly Lifted my way into speed, agility, balance, and flexibility. I Wallballed my way into accuracy and coordination.
CrossFit forces us out of our comfort zone. It forces us to train fitness areas we normally wouldn’t think of if we go with our girlfriends to Globogym and spend our time looking good in front of the mirrors. We are supposed to sweat and get dirty and have our muscles ache and burn. I spent my twenties coming out of my athletic life. I spent my thirties consuming far more calories than I burned fearing that four C-sections damaged my body beyond any athletic capability. Now in my forties I’m training hard, lifting heavy, and running far. Come with me and the rest of the Bomber’s staff to help you reach your potential. No matter your age.
